QUESTION: What is a "Dataset Name?"

ANSWER: A Dataset Name is simply the name of the perm file that the Record Description is to be associated with.

QUESTION: What are "FD Identifiers?"

ANSWER: FD Identifiers refer to an identifying set of letters / numbers that refer to a perm file, using the Record Descriptions (RD). Example: FDABC, FDABC01, FDBZA...

QUESTION: What is an "RD Name?"

ANSWER: An RD, or Record Description, is used if you have a record layout for your dataset and you want it to be kept on file for future reference. You can get an RD identifier from Data Administration. You submit your record description and Data Administration will store the layout for you.

QUESTION: On an AIS Perm File Description, what does the term "Security Class" mean?

ANSWER: If the data is stored on a cartridge, Security Class indicates how and where you want the cartridge to be stored. Check with the Scheduling Office for values.

QUESTION: I cannot submit a form because of blank fields. What should I do?

ANSWER: If you cannot submit a form because a field is blank, simply type "N/A" (not applicable) into that field and resubmit.

QUESTION: On an AIS Codeset Request Form, what is the "Codeset Name?"

ANSWER: Data Administration will name the codeset. If you have a suggestion, they will try to accommodate you. This may not always be possible since abbreviations are standardized and / or the name you choose may already be in use.

QUESTION: On an AIS Codeset Request Form, what is the "Data Field?"

ANSWER: If you have a field on ADABAS that will use this codeset (see below), the name goes here. Data Administration will place the codeset name on the field in test
(and production, if the field is not new).
