Windows Print Server Software

This page contains instructions on how to set up the Windows 2000 Print Server.

Click the "Start Button" and go to "Settings/Control Panel"

Select "Add/Remove Programs"

In the left column, click on "Add/Remove Windows Components"

In the Windows Components Wizard, scroll through the list and check the box next to "Other Network File and Print Services".  Then click on the "Details" button in the lower right section of the screen.

Ensure that "Print Services for Unix" is checked and then click "OK"

At this point, you may be prompted for the Windows 2000 CD

Then you will need to go to "Administrative Tools", then "Services".  Double click on "TCP/IP Print Server" to change the "Startup Type" setting.

The following dialog box appears.  The middle dropdown box, "Startup Type", must be changed from "Manual" to "Automatic"

Note: If the Service Status states that the service is starting as opposed to started, reboot the system.

From there, go into your "Printers" folder on your computer and right click on the printer you want to use for mainframe printing.  On the pop-up menu, select the "Sharing" option.

In the "Sharing" dialog box, click the "Shared As" radio button.  In the text box, enter a share name.

Note: The share name is case sensitive.

Click "Apply" and "OK".  Fill out the appropriate form for AIS Support.  The share name that you created will be the queue name AIS will use with your IP address to define your TCP number.
