New User Checklist

Welcome to Administrative Information Services. The AIS Web site serves as the primary resource for users of AIS through intuitive, efficient mechanisms for locating information about--and obtaining access to--administrative systems and support facilities. Our site mission includes enhancing the efficiencies of administrative computing users by providing functional, time-saving tools and updated information.

Before accessing and using AIS systems and services, you'll want to take a few general steps to get you started:

Access Accounts

In order to get access to most Penn State and AIS services, you will need a Penn State Access Account.  To request an account, contact your local Access and Security Representative (ASR) or advisor.

Training

Do you want a one-stop shop for all the training hosted on the AIS Web site? If so, visit AIS Training Services. This training page brings all of the training scattered across the AIS Web site to one location and presents it in an easy to browse and easy to find format.

If you're interested in training seminars offered by ITS Training Services, visit Training Opportunities for Administrative Computing to view the latest offerings or to request a training-on-demand program.

User Groups & Listservs

If you use a particular AIS service, then sign up for the coresponding user group or listserv. Doing so will allow you to get immediate announcements and be a part of engaging discussions.

To get involved in University-wide discussions, visit Penn State's listserv page to learn about the plethora of University listservs and the groups that run them.

Alerts, News & Events

Do you want up-to-the-minute alerts, news, and events from the AIS and ITS communities at Penn State? If so, then take a look at the sidebar--on the right-hand side of every page on the AIS Web site. The sidebar integrates an RSS feed of ITS Alerts, a listing of the latest AIS News, and a calendar showing upcoming events.

Newsletter & Writing Tips

Another great way to stay in touch with the latest AIS news and notes is to read the monthly AIS Newsletter. The newsletter features a note from AIS Senior Director, Ron Rash, a feature story or two, personnel notes, and more.

In addition to the monthly newsletter, the AIS Writer/Editor provides witty and educational Writing Tips. Past tips have included proper comma use, confusing word pairs, and writing from the perspective of first, second and third person. If you're a word nerd--or simply want to improve your writing skills--make sure you check out our Writing Tips.
