AIS Password Policies

The following policies must be followed when creating or changing passwords for AIS services. For information regarding Data Warehouse password policies, please visit the SQL 2005 Password Policies page.

In the case that the authentication is handled via Penn State's WebAccess system, please refer to the password policies found on the ITS Access Account ID and Password page.

  • Must be at least 6 and no more than 8 characters in length
  • Do not use any special characters or spaces
  • Must contain 1 alpha and 1 numeric character
  • Cannot be your user ID if it is a 6 to 8 character ID (i.e. xxx5014)
  • Letters or numbers cannot be in triplicate within the password (i.e. aaa, 111)
  • Cannot use the 4 previous passwords (the system keeps a history of these passwords)
