Sabbatical Request for Leave (SABB) Deployment Schedule

On September 4, 2008, the Workflow Sabbatical Request for Leave with pay Application was deployed in a limited capacity within the following areas:

  • College of Agricultural Sciences
  • College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
  • Smeal College of Business

This is the second process to be automated and made available through the Penn State production Workflow System.
 
The Sabbatical Request for Leave with pay Application is currently available as a paper-based process, allowing eligible University employees to request leave with pay in order to perform additional studies and research. On an annual basis, 150 Sabbatical requests are made, with the majority of these requests being granted.
 
The new Workflow version of the Sabbatical Request for Leave with pay process will enable Faculty members to electronically create and submit their request while offering the following benefits when compared to the current paper based-process:
 

  • The application will be automatically populated by pulling information directly from the central database
  • Required additional documents, which can exceed 75 pages of printed text, will be electronically attached to the application
  • Upon submission, the application will automatically be routed to the first reviewer of the requested leave request
  • The Workflow system will send an e-mail notification to each reviewer as the request for leave moves along the approval path alerting the reviewer of a Sabbatical leave request awaiting their review  
  • Upon review of the Sabbatical Request for Leave with pay, each reviewer will be able to electronically recommend or not recommend the request
  • Required letters of assessment concerning the leave request will also be electronically attached to the application, thus making this new process a completely paperless procedure
