Virtual Domain E-mail Hosting is a service utilized to maintain departmental or personal e-mail addresses in a departmental setting after the original mail server has been decommissioned. AIS enables departmental IT staff to transition a departmental e-mail address over to a Penn State e-mail server, while maintaining the address as it appears to the public.
For example, if the School of Liberal Arts is taking its e-mail server offline, but there are several important addresses it would prefer to keep in existence (firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org). The IT staff member can have those addresses placed onto a Penn State e-mail service and the address name will be maintained (email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, and email@example.com).
NOTE: New names and addresses can not be created via this method. Only existing names and addresses will be available for transfer.
Those looking to utilize the service are encouraged to contact the IT Service Desk – firstname.lastname@example.org.
