Scanner Recommendations

Before purchasing a scanner for use with our Document Imaging service, you must consider the following:

  • The scanner MUST be Twain driver compatible
  • The estimated daily volume of scanned documents
  • Functionality requirements, such as duplex, color, document feeder, flat bed, etc.
  • The number of workstations which will require access to the scanner
  • Your own budget constraints

Additionally, while multi-function machines (i.e. networked copier/scanners) can be used if they meet the above requirements, you must take into consideration whether the machine will be readily accessible when needed, whether using this machine will delay the copying/scanning of other projects, whether the machine is networked, and whether it has the ability to send scanned images to a desktop computer.

If you are currently ready to purchase a scanner for use with our Document Imaging service, then you may do so at the Penn State Computer Store.  For reviews of various scanners, please visit Consumer Search.
