Windows 2000 Print Server User Instructions

Click the "Start Button"
Go to "Settings/Control Panel"

Select “Add/Remove Programs”

In the left column, click on the ‘Add/Remove Windows Components’ icon.

In the Windows Components Wizard, scroll the list and checkmark the “Other Network File and Print Services.” Then click on the ‘Details’ button in the lower right section of the screen.

Ensure that “Print Services for Unix” is check marked and then click “OK.”

 (You may be prompted for Windows 2000 CD).

The setting for the TCP Print server is started in “Manual.” You will need to go to the ‘Services’ panel and change it to “Automatic.” Go to “Administrative Tools,” then “Services.” Double-click on “TCP/IP Print Server.”

The following dialog box appears. The middle combo box, “Startup type,” must be changed to “Automatic.”

Note: If the Service Status: states it is starting as opposed to started…. reboot the system.

Go into your ‘Printers’ folder of your computer…Right-click on the printer icon that you want to use for mainframe printing. On the ‘shortcut’ menu, select the ‘sharing’ tab.

On the ‘sharing’ tab…click the ‘shared as’ radio button. In the text box—case sensitive—enter a share name.

Click “Apply” and “OK.” Fill out the appropriate form for AIS Support http://ais.psu.edu/Printing/index.html. The share name you created will be the queue name AIS will use with your IP address to define your TCP#.
