Link to Another Page

The following linking functionality is available:

Linking to an existing Web page or a Web page that is located on another site can be done from (1) a bulleted list, and from (2) within the Text Editor.  Instructions follow.

From a Main Section Bulleted List to an Existing Page

Step 1.  In the desired list, click on the Link RedDot.

Step 2.  From the Edit Link Element menu, select Reference Page and click OK.

Step 3.  You will use the RedDot Search function to locate and select the page you wish to link to. A portion of the Search capability is displayed below. Additional search criteria may be used to locate a page.  The most commonly criteria are 'Search text' and 'Headline'.

Enter text that is somewhat descriptive of the page you wish to locate, i.e. Hours of Availability. This entry can be placed in either the Search text or Headline field.  An exact match is not required if the 'Return similar results' is selected.

Click Start to begin the search.

Step 4.  Search Results will be displayed and previewed if needed. The link will be created once the page is selected.  If the page you are searching is not included in the results, revise the search criteria and repeat the search process.

Step 5. Return to and click on the Link RedDot. Rename the link to match the page it now connects to. Click OK.

From a Main Section Bulleted List to Another Web Site

Step 1. In the desired list, click on the Link RedDot.

Step 2 -- three-part process:  All of the steps are conducted in the Edit Link menu. 

Scroll down to the 'Rename Link' portion of the Edit Link Element menu. Enter the name of the site/page that you are linking to.

The second step of this process is to 'Assign URL' to the link.  Scroll up and click on 'Assign URL' .  Enter the full URL of the site. Click OK.

Links to sites and pages that are not located on the AIS Web site should open a new window.  This final step is achieved as shown below.  Click on the Link RedDot and select Edit Target.  In the User-defined field, enter _blank.  When this link is used, a separate browser window will open.

From text on a page to an existing Web page on the AIS site

Please do not hard-code a URL to refer or point to a page that exists within RedDot.  Follow directions below instead.  This also applies to secured pages.

Step 1. Within the text editor, highlight the text that will serve as the link to another page and click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.

Step 2. The Insert/Edit menu will be displayed.  Click on the 'Insert Link to Page' icon.

The RedDot Search menu will be displayed.  From here, enter search criteria to locate the page you wish to link to.  A list of search results will be displayed.  Preview pages if necessary to ensure that you have located the desired page.  Click on the page and then OK. 

The Insert/Edit Link menu will contain the RedDot HREF to the page.  Click OK to establish the link.

From text on a page to an external Web site

Step 1. Within the text editor, highlight the text that will serve as the link to another page and click on the Insert/Edit Link icon.

Step 2. Enter the full URL into the HREF field.  And add a _blank attribute in the Target field. This will open a new browser window when the link is used, allowing users to simultaneously remain on the AIS Web site and follow an external link. Click OK to establish the link.
