HostExplorer 6.1- File Transfer for Windows

This documentation covers File Transfer with the Administrative Information Services' mainframe computer at the Pennsylvania State University using Hummingbird Software, HostExplorer version 6.1.
If you have problems, after following the steps in this document, contact the AIS Support Center, 814-863-2276, for assistance.

Getting Started

In order to accomplish a file transfer using the following instructions, you will need:

  • An AIS account and also TSO access. If you do not have TSO access, contact the your ASR (Access & Security Representative) or contact the AIS Support Center.
  • Access to a personal computer with a working connection to the Administrative Information Services and the HostExplorer terminal emulation software product installed and functioning.

Important:

When we give examples of file transfer commands, the following conventions are used:

  • HOST.DATASET.NAME = the mainframe Data Set Name (DSN) and
  • C:\FILENAME.EXT where: C:\ = the PC target drive and path and
  • FILENAME.TXT = the PC file name and appropriate extension.

> Caution:

If you specify a data set name that already exists on the mainframe when you send a file, your PC file will overwrite the mainframe file. Likewise, if you specify a PC file name that already exists, the newly transferred file will overwrite your PC file when you download.
