From the Director
A year ago, Administrative Information Services (AIS) decided to consolidate its database specialists into one cohesive unit. We had very skilled DBAs (database administrators) in multiple groups with database management systems responsibilities that included ADABAS, SQL, Oracle, and DB/2. We found that the opportunities for cross-training, staffing back-up development, and personnel career development opportunities were limited, in part, because of the unstructured organizational placement of these staff members. With that, a single Database Administration and Management Group was formed within AIS, and Alex Pollock was chosen as its first manager.
Please read the feature story (below) to understand the tremendous progress we have seen in this area in one short year.
