From The Director
Fortunately, most of the people we talk to regularly know that we are generally talking about a computer 'server' (and associated and appropriately sized data storage devices) that fit somewhere between personal computers and mainframes; i.e. enterprise size servers - whatever that means. So I guess that if the 'server' cost more then a couple of thousand dollars and less then a million dollars, it is 'Mid-Tier'.
In AIS, we classify it a little differently - why not make it more confusing? We define our Mid-Tier Infrastructure Unit as that unit which manages the servers that are based upon Intel processor technology (mostly Dell servers and mostly Intel processors), all running the Microsoft Operating System (and associated and appropriate storage devices). The feature AIS Unit this month is our Mid-Tier Infrastructure Unit, and we are very proud of its capabilities - regardless of its confusing name.

Personnel Notes
Upgrades:
Pam Downs (Information Services group) was recently upgraded from a Programmer/Analyst, Level 2 to a Programmer/Analyst, Level 3.
Gail Dunmire (Student Systems Office) was recently upgraded from a Programmer/Analyst, Level 2 to a Programmer/Analyst, Level 3.
Reclassifications:
Dawn Boyer, Peter deVries, and Denny Morrison recently had their position categories reclassified to Systems Design Specialists, Level 5.
Reassignment:
Gordy Peck has accepted a reassignment to move from our Enterprise Infrastructure Team to our Mid-Tier Infrastructure Team. We recently made a decision to migrate the Windows segment of our storage management from Enterprise Infrastructure to Mid-Tier Infrastructure, and since Gordy had spent the majority of his time dealing with Windows storage issues, it made sense to see if Gordy would consider a reassignment to our Mid-Tier Team. Congratulations, Gordy, on your new assignment!
