Registration for the User Services Conference 2007 is now open.
The User Service Conference 2007 will be held Thursday, April 5, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel at University Park.

This annual conference is designed for staff who provide IT support to departments, colleges, campuses, and offices. Participants will attend educational sessions, interact with their colleagues, and enhance their professional development.

In keeping with this year's theme, Supporting Penn State's Success, the conference will offer twelve customer service, management, and technical sessions on such topics as network and data security, Office 2007, Vista, Podcasting, and IT career paths. John E. Bucher, chief technology officer in the Irvin E. Houck Center for Information Technology at Oberlin College, will present the keynote address. In addition to local and campus vendors, representatives from IBM, Dell, Gateway, Footprints and Adobe will be available to answer questions.  This year's conference will also offer poster sessions on a number of topics of interest to IT professionals. Continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served as part of the $60 conference registration fee.

Outdoor Wireless Survey Results:
In December, AIS Staff were asked their thoughts on expanding wireless access to include the outdoor area south of the building.  36 people voted and here are the results:

42%     I have used the outdoor area and would likely use wireless there if available

14%     I have used the outdoor area and would rarely or never use wireless there

28%     I have not used the outdoor area, but would if there was wireless available there

16%     I have not used the outdoor area and probably won’t, regardless of wireless availability

Since 70% of respondents indicated that they would use wireless if it were there, AIS is moving forward with getting the access points installed.  Thanks for your feedback!

AIS Open Forum

No further events are currently scheduled for Open Forum in March.  Ideas and suggestions for topics are encouraged and may be submitted to Eric Helfen.

Did You Know?

We have poets among us!  The first annual Valentine's Day Poetry Contest was a huge success, with everything from haikus, to limericks, to sonnets in iambic pentameter being entered by our talented AIS staff.  Thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to the winners!  And the winners of the contest are...

Valentine From Heaven
By Jack Meyer

What offer, angel, did you to God make?
How did you both agree?
That you would shed your wings that day
Just to live on Earth with me.

You entered Earth on that wonderful day
And gave up heaven above
To devote yourself to be with me,
To be my one true love.

You’ve been a blessing to me ever since that day.
I’m so glad you came into my life.
But then you made me even happier still
When you agreed to be my wife.

I will always love my Valentine from heaven.
And when my days here are through,
I will pray that God restores your wings
And I’ll fly off to heaven with you.

Can You See It In My Eyes?
By Jeremy Landes

You don’t know how I’m feeling,
I have yet to vocalize.
Desire deep inside me.
Can you see it in my eyes?

You call me a friend,
but could it ever be more?
You act so sweet
and talk to adore.

I think about how life could be
with you in my arms.
I wonder if you see me
as your precious little charm.

Do you see the love I have
or are your eyes turned away?
Do you like me more than a friend
or are my dreams far from today?

How do I reveal
the feelings I have for you?
Do I act the same
or do I make a move?

I don’t want to lose
the friendship we both enjoy.
But I want to love you more
than just a friendly little boy.

You make me feel special
in your own unique way.
You send a smile across my face
and brighten every day.

Your simple words
and little acts of being kind,
pull me closer to your heart
and make me feel divine.

I’m so confused
and I can’t decide what to do.
Should I keep my feelings inside
or should I share them with you?

I wish there was just a way
I could ask this simple thought,
then for sure I would know
if your heart is there or not.

I guess I just wrote this poem
to show you how I feel
and how much I want to say this
without making a big deal.

I long to say “I love you,”
but am scared of your reply.
Terrified like a child,
I’ve become paralyzed.

The camouflaged emotions
lead to pain and silent cries.
And yet I just can’t tell you.
Can you see it in my eyes?

Puppy Love
By Pam Lohr

I searched many eyes for the love I owned
Yearning for the same intensity and purity
Mine own heart had shown
The search proved futile and I released it to God
I accepted my life
And without expectations, I continued to plod
Then cupid’s arrow pierced me by surprise
One day upon gazing into my puppy dog’s eyes
And my love was mirrored back to me
Unconditional and Divine
