From The Director

'The Winter of Our Discontent' - isn't this the name of an old Steinbeck novel?  With all this recent cold, ice, and snow, we could easily refer to this late winter season in a similar fashion.  The University's administrative computing community can also point to historical events and projects that bring to mind long cold days and crisp sharp nights - the highs and lows of lengthy projects.  One such project has been the development of our Integrated Business Information Systems (IBIS).   The IBIS Project has touched every University business office since its initial efforts in the late 1980's. Almost every 'business' programmer/analyst and IT Manager around the University today can recall their direct involvement in portions of IBIS development.  Well, we are now in the last few months of the IBIS Development Project - the end is in sight.   We have built an integrated business systems environment that compares to the best that exist today in higher education - and we built it ourselves. The IBIS Development Project will be completed this summer and the IBIS Project Office will cease to exist. However, we will then have a completed integrated business system and related integrated databases that will serve our community well in the years to come. We will continue to enhance this integrated environment and change it as needed in years ahead, with projects such as the EASY Forms re-engineering project.

The feature article of this newsletter describes the steps being taken to complete the IBIS Development Project - which will be declared complete upon the elimination of the current Central Accounting System this summer.

Following are the major components, with a brief description, that make up this effort:
