Student DB--Security Changes
Posted: Monday, March 02, 2009
Data Warehouse Student Database Users,
Security changes have been made in the STUDENT database on the DEVELOPMENT Data Warehouse to transfer permissions from individual access to role-based access. THESE CHANGES ARE INTENDED TO BE TRANSPARENT. That is, you should not notice any difference in what you are and are not able to access. In an effort to ensure the transparency of this change, we would appreciate your assistance.
We are asking Student database users to log into the Development server (128.118.5.43) and run a couple of queries on various tables. Further, please be sure to run any critical queries. Please keep in mind that the query results on the Development server may contain different data than the same query results on the Production server. This is understandable and expected. The key factor in this test is simply the ability to run the queries, not the accuracy of the query results. Thus, if the queries are able to be run on the Production server, but not able to be run on the Development server, please let me know ASAP.
APPLICATION ID OWNERS: Please take extra precaution by thoroughly testing your access, as we understand the integrity of your applications depends on your access to the warehouse.
We will be accepting feedback regarding these security changes on the Development server until Friday, March 6. At that point, if there are no outstanding issues, we will proceed with the Production implementation of these security changes.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks!
Suzi Cotter
