This hands-on training session is designed for new users of Microsoft Access 2010 who will use Access to retrieve data from Penn State's Data Warehouse. The session covers only those features of Access needed to retrieve and manipulate Data Warehouse data effectively and efficiently. While learning Access, participants will also learn how to use Web resources to identify the databases, tables, and fields needed to retrieve data. This workshop uses a training database that includes Student Database tables. The session emphasizes the most commonly used Student Database tables and fields, though the skills can be applied to all of Penn State's Data Warehouse databases.

  • Describe Penn State Data Warehouse fundamentals
  • Connect to the Data Warehouse
  • Create simple queries
  • Create new tables from a query
  • Sort and filter query results
  • Describe Data Warehouse security
