Access 2007 Introduction Training

There are still seats available for the Data Warehouse: Introduction to Queries Using MS Access 2007 training on:

  • November 16, 2009 (1-5pm) through November 17, 2009 (8:30am-12pm)
  • Location: 23 Willard Building
  • Cost:  $50/person

Prerequisite(s): Data Warehouse access is required; Data Warehouse & EIS: An Overview and Comparison or equivalent knowledge and skills.

This hands-on training session is designed for new users of Microsoft Access 2007 who will use Access to retrieve data from Penn State's Data Warehouse. The session covers only those features of Access that are needed to retrieve and manipulate Data Warehouse data effectively and efficiently. While learning Access, participants will also learn how to use Web resources to identify the databases, tables, and fields needed to retrieve data. This workshop makes use of a training database that includes tables from the Student Database. The session emphasizes those tables and fields in the Student Database that are most commonly used, though the skills can be applied to all of the Penn State's Data Warehouse databases. A manual will be provided in this workshop.

  • Describe Penn State Data Warehouse fundamentals
  • Connect to the Data Warehouse
  • Create simple queries
  • Create new tables from a query
  • Sort and filter query results
  • Describe Data Warehouse security
