What is the Generalized Interface

What is the Generalized Interface?

Thanks to the new Generalized Interface, developers throughout the University can use a variety of programming languages to design Web Applications that perform business functions using AIS data. The Interface, provided by Administrative Information Services, facilitates the exchange of information between differing computer systems through the use of Extensible Markup Language (XML), a universal format for structured documents and data on the Web. Initially, this application will be used to exchange information between departmental systems and central AIS databases on enterprise servers or mainframes. These applications will commonly run on departmental servers, using the Interface as the "bridge" to AIS data and a "repository" for Web Services. Once these Web Services are created, they are available for reuse by other developers. Future development will allow for information exchange between a wide variety of platforms and systems.
