CIDR Overview

Central Identification Repository  (CIDR)

Description
CIDR is the University’s Central ID Repository. It contains information about a person such as the PSU ID, Digital IDs [Access or Friends of Penn State (FPS) accounts], SSN and additional biographical data like birth month and day that can be used for matching records.  Access to this information will be provided by a secure CIDR Web application or through a callable interface for departmental systems.

The CIDR Web application provides functions that authorized Penn State staff can use to look up a PSU ID by name, digital ID, or SSN. It also provides a mechanism for reporting SSNs to external agencies for authorized individuals and other functions.  Additional information about these functions is available on the documentation page.

What are Affiliates and How Will They Assign PSU IDs?

Affiliates are offices that create their own CIDR records by entering personal information about a constituent and getting a PSU ID assigned.  These offices will need prior approval from the Data Steward for this function.

The instructions and forms are available for this at:

https://www.fis.psu.edu/webaccess/datasteward/directions.htm

Once an affiliate code is assigned, a Web-based screen is used to assign a PSU ID interactively. Also, there will be a Web-based option for the upload of a file of records in a defined format, which will return a file with the assigned PSU IDs. Generalized Interface services are also available for PSU ID assignment and maintenance.
