Staff Specifics

Will I see reports or screens with the new PSU ID in the older SSN-type format xxx-xx-xxxx?

Yes. Several offices are still in the process of making changes to the presentation of the new PSU ID on screens and reports, so don't be alarmed if you see the new number in the older format. Remember, the new PSU ID will always begin with a '9'.

Student Record Specifics

How will students be notified of, or find out their new PSU ID?

  • Existing students with id+ cards will see their new PSU ID on their new id+ card

  • Authorized University employees can look up a student's PSU ID using the ISIS ID screen or a new CIDR Web function called Alpha Lookup

  • For non-degree students, the communications process from the University. Registrar will include the PSU ID on a confirmation letter that can be printed from ARUSPN. Re-enrollment letters will also have this information

  • Students registering in Outreach offerings will see their PSU ID printed on their receipt or the receipt generated by NCRR

  • All students will be able to see their PSU ID on the eLion Academic Summary

  • At this time, Admissions is planning to alert all 2005 "offered" students of their PSU ID number. Offers that have been extended prior to the winter break will be informed by a mailing shortly after the break. Those offers after the conversion will be notified with a handout placed in their packets

If I work with faculty, what should I be aware of with regard to posting students' grades after the conversion?

Student grades should not be posted by SSNs. Also, in accordance with University policy AD19, the PSU ID cannot be used to display students' scores or grades publicly (neither by the whole number or by just the last 4 digits).

Instructors can assign a secret code to each student in the class and post grades with this code. The "secret code" created can in no way use any student identifiers, or pieces thereof, such as name, SSN or PSU ID. Codes used to post grades must be random and not correspond to students in alphabetical, SSN or PSU ID order. In addition, eLion is a secured environment. Instructors are encouraged to use eLion to record final course grades. Students can then use eLion to retrieve their final grades.

What ID will enrollment verifications, transcripts and degree audits use?

Of interest to advisers and others is the fact that the enrollment verification and official transcript documents will continue to have the SSN displayed on them.

Degree audits and advising transcripts, on the other hand, will display the PSU ID instead, since they are used internally.
